It sounds like a match made in Hollywood. Boy meets girl, girl loses boy, boy finds girl on a different continent some 70 years later.

But that’s not some writer’s fantasy. That’s the story of Gladys Lillicrap and Fred Davies, two Canadians who were in England — Lillicrap as a member of the Women’s Land Army and Davies flying over Europe on mission after mission fighting the Nazis — met, and fell for each other, only to nearly never see each other again.

Their story, and Lillicrap’s life, were celebrated Saturday at Branch 34 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Orillia.
