Employment

Type of work undertaken: Felled trees and loaded onto trucks.

Any accidents: Fell off back of lorry and hurt her back. This was more of a problems in her early 40’s, had surgery, but fully recovered.

Best and worst memories of time: Rarely recounted bad memories. Betty joined Whizz Bangs (Dance Troupe) and entertained troops on weekends during her work with WTC. (There is some reference to the Whizz Bangs in the Huddersfield Examiner newspaper).

Opportunities to meet others: Met two lifelong friends, one childhood friend and one at camp.

Life after the war

Did they return back to their pre-war occupation? No.

What was their occupation after the war? Wife, homemaker, mother, retail.

Did they stay on the land? Emigrated to Canada (war bride).

How did work in the WTC affect their life? Some of the best years of her life – lifelong friends,

Any outstanding events or achievements in WTC or in later life? Good person, outstanding mom.

Any other information: After her father passed in England, her mother (Ivy) emigrated to Canada to join Betty in 1968.
