Welfare

 

Looking after the welfare of Land Girls was of great importance to Lady Denman. She organised this in hostels by the use of wardens. These were women in charge of hostels and oversaw the daily lives of Land Girls. Interestingly, (Grimwood, 2000, p. 51) describes one warden having a ‘hand of velvet and a hand of steel’.
